The Mothership's Traditional Midwifery Program is in place as the continuation of the work that our Great Grand Midwives began.

Course Summary

The Mothership's Certification Programs were designed to meet the highest level standards of professionalism in the field of womb work. You will receive a curriculum that is culturally relevant and experience-based wisdom from Traditional Midwives. In this Traditional Midwifery Apprenticeship Certification, you will also explore anatomy and healing methods through our robust multi-media library and video lectures. All books and supporting materials relevant to the class are included.   In this an apprenticeship course so we will have hands on intensives.

The Mothership Traditional Midwifery Certification

The legacy of Grand Midwives of America continues through us in the form of its traditions and rituals of birth. This class prepares an apprentice to enter the field of birth work as a Traditional Midwife or continue on to the second portion with a Mothership Preceptor to take the Certified Professional Midwifery NARM Exam as a PEP Applicant. *A prerequisite for the midwifery certification program is full birth doula certification for 5 years or 20 births.

Program Overview: 

 This apprenticeship program provides a deep dive into traditional midwifery practices, anatomy, and healing methods. Through a combination of hands-on intensives, multimedia resources, and video lectures, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent and compassionate Traditional Midwives.  

Course Content:  
Core Concepts: Delve into fundamental principles such as sanitation, anatomy, and physiology, with a focus on reproductive anatomy of both male, female, and neonatal anatomy.
    Reproductive Pathology: Explore common reproductive disorders and pathologies, equipping students with the knowledge to recognize and address potential complications.
    Palpation and Assessments: Learn the art of palpation and assessment techniques essential for monitoring maternal and fetal well-being throughout pregnancy and birth.
    Placenta and The Lotus Birth: Understand the significance of the placenta and explore the practice of Lotus Birth as a cultural tradition. History of the Grand Midwife: Discover the legacy of the Grand Midwives of America, learning about their traditions and rituals of birth that continue to influence modern midwifery practice.
    Culturally Relevant Information: Gain insight into cultural perspectives on birth, including relevant statistics and practices from diverse communities.
    Herbalism and Natural Healing Modalities: Explore the use of herbs and natural healing methods in supporting maternal and fetal health during pregnancy and birth.
     Maternal and Fetal Positioning: Learn about optimal positioning for labor and birth, including techniques to encourage optimal fetal positioning. Clinical Labs: Engage in practical, hands-on clinical labs to develop essential skills in prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
 
Certification Pathway:  

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be prepared to enter the field of birth work as Traditional Midwives. They may also choose to continue their journey by entering the second portion of our program, working with a Mothership Preceptor to pursue Certified Professional Midwifery (CPM) certification through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) Exam as a PEP (Portfolio Evaluation Process) Applicant.  

Prerequisites:  Applicants to the Traditional Midwifery Apprenticeship Certification program must hold full birth doula certification with at least 5 years of experience or having attended a minimum of 20 births.  Join us at the Mothership Institute and embark on a journey to honor the ancient traditions of birth while embracing modern knowledge and practices in midwifery.
